Dear Chocolate,

I know this letter will not find you well,
I hope you are in a better place,
Amidst the cotton candy clouds of heaven,
Longing, yearning for the heat of the oven.

Once,

You seduced me from your palace of ice and winter,
Whispering honeyed words from inside your golden covers,
That tickled my taste buds and made my stomach flutter,
But, your bittersweet wiles could not taint my honor,
I resisted your charms and chained my hunger.

Because

You were betrothed to sir Unsalted Butter,
I knew you would bake an eggcellent couple together,
Your dad would have been there too, dear old Cocoa Powder,
To be wed in an oven warmer than summer,
The preparations were being made,
I had even ordered the flours.

Even though my heart echoed my stomach’s grumble,
I did not wish to trade the birth of the brownies sweet,
For only a moment of bliss with this cocoa courtesan,
Resist I will, I…
