Mr. Chuti Putee and the Cashew Nut Tree
My attempt at re-writing one of my grandma's bedtime stories
Once upon a time, there was a big tree in the middle of the forest. It was an old twisted cashew nut tree that stood mighty — towering over all its sisters and brothers.
A fluffy little nest was nestled high up on this tree. Inside the nest nestled the fluffy little Mr. Chuti Putee.
Mr. Chuti Putee was a very nutty squirrel with a big bushy tail. He loved running, jumping, and swinging through the branches of the cashew nut tree. Run, run, run, and leap.
But one day it rained making the branches all slippery. Mr. Chuti Putee ran, ran, then slipped, and tumbled down the cashew nut tree.
He hurt his leg and bruised his knee. He could not get back up to his fluffy little nest all the way up in the cashew nut tree.
That’s when a little girl found Mr. Chuti Putee.
She felt so bad to see him so sad. So she took him home and took care of his knee. She bandaged his leg and gave him lots of cashews from the cashew nut tree. A few weeks later Mr. Chuti Putee was all better but the girl didn’t want to set him free.
She put him in a cage and kept him safe, kept him fed, and loved him every day. She hugged him…
