What I Learned After Reaching My First Medium Milestone

I can’t believe three months have flown by since I first started writing on Medium. Writing has always been an important part of my life but my work usually has been relegated to small notebooks hidden away inside dusty cupboards and buried under years of neglect.

They were my words, my stories — the dreams of an introvert destined to never see the light of day! But, Medium has given me a platform to share those tales and the community here has encouraged me to keep posting new and crazy stories.

Let me share a few things I’ve picked up about writing and about myself along the way.

What I Learned So Far

Write with the reader in mind

No matter how masterful your words or how emotionally riveting the story is, it won't be very useful if no one understands it. I have tried to make my stories more engaging and infuse some humor here and there to keep the reader interested.

Unfortunately, I still struggle with this; I write sentences so complex that people cannot make head or tail of it, and sometimes my humor falls flat on its face. But, I fear due to my bombastic creativity and secret contradictory narcissism…
